Inspirations for the novel
Devlog 2 - Inspirations for the novel.
Hello once again! Thank you if you are one of the very few who has stumbled upon this page. With 2 more days until release, I thought I might as well talk about what inspired me to write this novel.
There are 2 main series that influenced my style of writing
1) The Legend of Heroes
2) Fault Milestone
Bonus: For All Mankind
The Legend of Heroes has a special place in my heart because of the world they have created. Characters are a bit hit (especially Cold Steel characters which I do not like) and miss but damn I can honestly see myself living in the world of Zemuria with the countries and culture they have made. It honestly helped me developed the "cities" of Aegis Dilemma and what each city represents. It also helped me to include some "mysteries" of the world of Aegis Dilemma... and I leave it to you to figure it out in the story. This series has 10 games (11 in 2024) in English on steam! I highly recommend you play all of them but do expect some cringe moments in Cold Steel and Reverie (they made me hate Llyod in Reverie).
Fault Milestone inspired me in terms of characters. It has a similar worldbuilding as the Legend of Heroes. However, its characters are way better. I especially like Rune because her character has never been written before in my opinion yet maintains a sense of realism and believability (go play Fault Milestone 1 as I won't give major spoilers about her). In a market full of dating visual novels, it is also refreshing to see an adventure and political based visual novel with character's motivations being a mystery yet believable. Unfortunately, it has been on hiatus for like 8 years which is annoying. However, this "hiatus" is part of the reason why I started Aegis Dilemma, I want to create and make a story that Fault could not make. Despite it, I highly recommend Fault Milestone 1 and Fault Milestone 2: Side Above. it has a good story and a way better production quality than my game, tough its hiatus and lack of conclusion to the story after 8 years is a bit.... disappointing....
Lastly I never spoke about this but I have also recently been inspired by For All Mankind. It is the only non-anime series in this list and made by a Western company. However, the themes on space, resilience and creativity resonates greatly with me. The songs (espcially season 1 song) generally makes you feel that anything is possible and you can do anything. While none of the story nor themes in Aegis Dilemma: Veritas Omnia Vincit are taken from For All Mankind, the second Aegis Dilemma game (when I get to it) will take heavy inspiration from For All Mankind. If you are a space geek or enjoy great character development (or reverse development for some characters....), I highly recommend For All Mankind.
Thats all. These are the series that inspired me to make a visual novel. 2 more days to release and the game is generally done and ready for upload. I will also be uploading a release trailer on the day itself. See you all then and I hope you will enjoy the story!
